CVE-2023-5367: OOB Write in Xorg X11 Server XIChangeDeviceProperty
CVE-2023-5367 Published on October 25, 2023
Xorg-x11-server: out-of-bounds write in xichangedeviceproperty/rrchangeoutputproperty
A out-of-bounds write flaw was found in the xorg-x11-server. This issue occurs due to an incorrect calculation of a buffer offset when copying data stored in the heap in the XIChangeDeviceProperty function in Xi/xiproperty.c and in RRChangeOutputProperty function in randr/rrproperty.c, allowing for possible escalation of privileges or denial of service.

Weakness Type
What is a Memory Corruption Vulnerability?
The software writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Typically, this can result in corruption of data, a crash, or code execution. The software may modify an index or perform pointer arithmetic that references a memory location that is outside of the boundaries of the buffer. A subsequent write operation then produces undefined or unexpected results.
CVE-2023-5367 has been classified to as a Memory Corruption vulnerability or weakness.
