Kestra OSS AuthFilter RCE via /configs Suffix (v<1.0.45, 1.3.21)
CVE-2026-49869 Published on June 26, 2026
Kestra: Unauthenticated Remote Code Execution via Authentication Bypass in `AuthenticationFilter`
Kestra is an open-source, event-driven orchestration platform. Prior to 1.0.45 and 1.3.21, AuthenticationFilter in Kestra OSS uses request.getPath().endsWith("/configs") to whitelist the public configuration endpoint from Basic Auth. Because the check is a suffix match rather than an exact path match, any API path whose last segment is configs bypasses authentication entirely. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this to create and execute arbitrary workflows without credentials. Because Kestra ships with script execution plugins (plugin-script-shell, plugin-script-python, etc.) enabled by default, this directly results in unauthenticated Remote Code Execution as root inside the Kestra worker container. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.0.45 and 1.3.21.
Known Exploited Vulnerability
This Kestra OSS OS Command Injection Vulnerability is part of CISA's list of Known Exploited Vulnerabilities. Kestra OSS contains an OS command injection vulnerability that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to create and execute arbitrary workflows without credentials.
The following remediation steps are recommended / required by September 5, 2026: Apply mitigations in accordance with vendor instructions, ensuring compliance with CISA’s BOD 26-04 Prioritizing Security Updates Based on Risk (see URL in Notes) guidance and CISA’s “Forensics Triage Requirements” (see URL in Notes). Vulnerability Analysis
CVE-2026-49869 can be exploited with network access, and does not require authorization privileges or user interaction. This vulnerability is considered to have a low attack complexity. This vulnerability is known to be actively exploited by threat actors in an automatable fashion. The potential impact of an exploit of this vulnerability is considered to be critical as this vulnerability has a high impact to the confidentiality, integrity and availability of this component.
Weakness Types
What is a Shell injection Vulnerability?
The software constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component.
CVE-2026-49869 has been classified to as a Shell injection vulnerability or weakness.
What is a Denylist / Deny List Vulnerability?
The product implements a protection mechanism that relies on a list of inputs (or properties of inputs) that are not allowed by policy or otherwise require other action to neutralize before additional processing takes place, but the list is incomplete, leading to resultant weaknesses. Developers often try to protect their products against malicious input by performing tests against inputs that are known to be bad, such as special characters that can invoke new commands. However, such lists often only account for the most well-known bad inputs. Attackers may be able to find other malicious inputs that were not expected by the developer, allowing them to bypass the intended protection mechanism.
CVE-2026-49869 has been classified to as a Denylist / Deny List vulnerability or weakness.
What is an authentification Vulnerability?
When an actor claims to have a given identity, the software does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct.
CVE-2026-49869 has been classified to as an authentification vulnerability or weakness.
What is a SSRF Vulnerability?
The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. By providing URLs to unexpected hosts or ports, attackers can make it appear that the server is sending the request, possibly bypassing access controls such as firewalls that prevent the attackers from accessing the URLs directly. The server can be used as a proxy to conduct port scanning of hosts in internal networks, use other URLs such as that can access documents on the system (using file://), or use other protocols such as gopher:// or tftp://, which may provide greater control over the contents of requests.
CVE-2026-49869 has been classified to as a SSRF vulnerability or weakness.
