Argo CD 3.2.03.2.10/3.3.03.3.8: Unauthorized ServerSideDiff exfiltrates secrets
CVE-2026-42880 Published on May 7, 2026
ArgoCD ServerSideDiff is vulnerable to Kubernetes Secret Extraction
Argo CD is a declarative, GitOps continuous delivery tool for Kubernetes. From versions 3.2.0 to before 3.2.11 and 3.3.0 to before 3.3.9, there is a missing authorization and data-masking gap in Argo CD's ServerSideDiff endpoint that allows an attacker with read-only access to extract plaintext Kubernetes Secret data from etcd via the Kubernetes API server's Server-Side Apply dry-run mechanism. This issue has been patched in versions 3.2.11 and 3.3.9.
Vulnerability Analysis
CVE-2026-42880 is exploitable with network access, and requires small amount of user privileges. This vulnerability is considered to have a low attack complexity. Public availability of a proof of concept (POC) exploit exists for CVE-2026-42880. The potential impact of an exploit of this vulnerability is considered to have a high impact on confidentiality, with no impact on integrity and availability.
Weakness Types
What is an Information Disclosure Vulnerability?
The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information.
CVE-2026-42880 has been classified to as an Information Disclosure vulnerability or weakness.
Improper Removal of Sensitive Information Before Storage or Transfer
The product stores, transfers, or shares a resource that contains sensitive information, but it does not properly remove that information before the product makes the resource available to unauthorized actors.
Insertion of Sensitive Information Into Sent Data
The code transmits data to another actor, but a portion of the data includes sensitive information that should not be accessible to that actor. Sensitive information could include data that is sensitive in and of itself (such as credentials or private messages), or otherwise useful in the further exploitation of the system (such as internal file system structure).
