Grafana Unbounded Memory Allocation via Prometheus Rule Conversion API
CVE-2026-33374 Published on October 13, 2026
Unbounded memory allocation in the Prometheus rule conversion API
The Prometheus rule conversion API endpoints in Grafana do not limit request body size, allowing authenticated users to trigger unbounded memory allocations that can crash the server through out-of-memory conditions.
Weakness Types
Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling
The software allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor.
What is a Resource Exhaustion Vulnerability?
The software does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources.
CVE-2026-33374 has been classified to as a Resource Exhaustion vulnerability or weakness.
What is a Stack Exhaustion Vulnerability?
The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated.
CVE-2026-33374 has been classified to as a Stack Exhaustion vulnerability or weakness.
