CVE-2022-42474 Published on June 13, 2023
A relative path traversal vulnerability [CWE-23] in Fortinet FortiOS version 7.2.0 through 7.2.3, version 7.0.0 through 7.0.9 and before 6.4.12, FortiProxy version 7.2.0 through 7.2.1 and 7.0.0 through 7.0.7, FortiSwitchManager version 7.2.0 through 7.2.1 and before 7.0.1 allows an privileged attacker to delete arbitrary directories from the filesystem through crafted HTTP requests.
Vulnerability Analysis
CVE-2022-42474 is exploitable with network access, and requires user privileges. This vulnerability is considered to have a low attack complexity. The potential impact of an exploit of this vulnerability is considered to have no impact on confidentiality, a high impact on integrity and availability.
Weakness Type
Relative Path Traversal
The software uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. This allows attackers to traverse the file system to access files or directories that are outside of the restricted directory.
