A relative path traversal vulnerability [CWE-23] in Fortinet FortiOS version 7.2.0 through 7.2.2, 7.0.0 through 7.0.8 and before 6.4.10, FortiProxy version 7.2.0 through 7.2.1, 7.0.0 through 7.0.7 and before 2.0.10, FortiSwitchManager 7.2.0 and before 7.0.0 allows an authenticated attacker to read and write files on the underlying Linux system via crafted HTTP requests.
Vulnerability Analysis
CVE-2022-41335 can be exploited with network access, and requires small amount of user privileges. This vulnerability is considered to have a low attack complexity. The potential impact of an exploit of this vulnerability is considered to be very high.
Weakness Type
Relative Path Traversal
The software uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. This allows attackers to traverse the file system to access files or directories that are outside of the restricted directory.
